Neurofeedback (NFB), also called neurotherapy or neurobiofeedback, is a type of biofeedback
that uses real-time capture of brain wave activity - most commonly via electroencephalography
(EEG), to teach self-regulation of brain function and to bring about altered states
of brain activity to provide a therapeutic benefit. This approach is non-invasive
and risk-free and promises to offer many benefits as neurofeedback has been demonstrated
to alter brain states towards reducing the perception of tinnitus. Indeed, recent
neurological studies indicate that reversing abnormal activity patterns in the auditory
cortex can reverse neuronal correlates of tinnitus loudness.
